TRENTON, Ont. – September 20, 2016 – Charlie Sandercock earned his sixth win of the season and third with the Go Nuclear Late Model Series last Saturday night at Mohawk International Raceway during the Mohawk Nationals.

Sandercock time trialed fastest in his group and finished fourth in his heat. The redraw was generous to Sandercock who took the pole position and never looked back as he led all 40 laps in the Bellevue Fabricating/Deerhaven/Newham Enterprise No.57 and won by a decisive five-second margin.

“All was good Saturday. We did the same thing we did Friday night. The car worked just as well and we were able to pick up the victory,” Sandercock said.

During the first night of action at Mohawk on Friday night, Sandercock was in contention for the win, but fell short after a flat tire during an incident while racing for second.

“We were up to second. I was passing AJ Kingsley for second. We were both lapping Brian Down through turn three and four. AJ and Brian came together and Brian came down the track and flattened our right rear,” Sandercock explained.

“We went to the pits to change that, came back out to restart 20th and make it back to seventh. “We had a really good car. I think we might have been able to challenge Brandon (Mowat) for the win.”

Nonetheless, Sandercock returned with a vengeance to win Saturday and had another strong run going Sunday at Weedsport Speedway to conclude the busy tripleheader before rain cancelled the remainder of the event.

“Sunday the car was really good. We didn’t have the best time trials run, but I also knew where I screwed up setup wise there,” Sandercock said. “We corrected that for the heat race and we won our heat. We were looking forward to feature time but the rain came and put an end to that.”

Sandercock has had plenty of success at Mohawk over the last three seasons, winning in four of six starts. He credits his success at the Hogansburg, NY track to his experience on a similar surface at Can-Am.

“Can-Am is a big track and you kind of tune the car to work on a big track. You carry the same momentum over to (Mohawk) setup wise and tuning wise. It just seems to work for us,” he commented.

Sandercock has gone back to his multi-championship chassis over the last couple of weeks with an instant return to victory lane. He’ll take that Rocket Chassis car in to a doubleheader this weekend at Brighton with the championship on the line Friday night before the $6,000 to win Great Crate Race for the Go Nuclear Series on Saturday. Sandercock won both titles in 2015.

“Hopefully we can carry the momentum in to this weekend and bring home a couple of victories and a championship,” explained the Trenton driver. “We definitely want to go back and defend our Great Crate Race title as well as the championship. Our team is fully focused and we’re prepared to do our best to retina both of those titles.

Race time on Friday night is 7:00pm while Saturday’s race kick starts at 6:00pm. Complete event details are available at www.brightonspeedway.ca.
